Cherniss was a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
History
When the Central Power Battery of Oa was drained of power by a being of another dimension, all power rings started to lose power. In the case of Cherniss, his ring ran out of energy while he was chasing some raiders escaping his planet, causing him to drift unprotected in space and die.[1]
Cherniss' service didn't go unnoticed, and he earned a place in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps.[2]

Notes
- Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
