In the early 1940s in Gotham City on Earth-S, Cherry Wade worked as secretary to special prosecutor Brian Butler and secretly aided him,[1] in his adventures as the mystery man Mister Scarlet.
History
The accounts of their time together imply without stating that Miss Wade and Brian Butler were romantically intimate.[2] In any case Miss Wade knew Mister Scarlet's secret identity, almost from the time he adopted it.[3]
After the adoption of Pinky Butler,[4] Miss Wade often attempted to forbid and thwart young Pinky from joining Scarlet on his dangerous adventures. To her immense frustration, he got around her every time, and she was never able to stop the lad from participating in Scarlet's exploits.
During a period of economic desperation, when Butler was unable to pay Miss Wade, Pinky, or himself any salary, she left the firm to seek other employment.[5] Several months later she returned to Brian Butler's office to ask for Mister Scarlet and Pinky's help to raise money for charity.[6]
