The Childminder is a "time scavenger" who kidnapped multiple kid heroes and sidekicks in the 1940s and took them to a hidden island outside the normal flow of time.

The Childminder was attracted by the many changes to the timeline since Flashpoint. Among those changes; The Thirteen, which included many Golden Age sidekicks, were totally erased from history. The Time Masters preserved them by placing them in stasis pods in the Time Lab, but an attack on the lab caused the pods to fail and they were reintegrated back into history before the timeline was fully restored.

As the young members of the Thirteen did not have a proper place in history, the Childminder was able to pull them to Orphan Island, an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean where time was frozen. She also snatched some kid heroes who had not been erased such as Wing. The Hourman of the 853rd Century offered to restore Childminder's youth in exchange for the children. Unbeknownst to her, Hourman was in fact a puppet for a potential future version of Corky Baxter.[1][2]

Although the sidekicks were largely forgotten, even by their own parents and mentors, a few of their surviving contemporaries such as the now-eldery Daniel Dunbar remembered them. In 2022 Dan eventually tracked his lost friends to Orphan Island and went in search of them, but was himself captured by the Childminder's drones when he arrived.[3]

Stargirl and Red Arrow, who were searching for the presumed dead Wing, found Dunbar's notes and followed him to the island. They shipwrecked and Emiko was captured by the drones, but Courtney was rescued by a band of sidekicks, including Wing, who had escaped.[4]

Emiko was locked up in Childminder's fortress in the cell next to Judy Garrick. The Childminder claimed that she was the only one who cared about the lost children, and she was saving them from the negligent adults in the outside world. She told Emiko that she was holding them until Hourman came for them.[5]

Childminder used Judy's Speed Force powers to open a portal to the 853rd Century and bring Hourman through to the island.[1] When Hourman arrived, the imprisoned sidekicks were breaking out of their cells while Stargirl and the others were attempting to break in to save them. Childminder and Hourman confronted them in the dungeons, and Hourman put all the children, except Stargirl, into temporal stasis.[6]

Hourman began to drain years from Stargirl's timeline to give to Childminder, but a younger version of Corky broke his focus by throwing his raccoon Crockett at him. This freed the sidekicks and the children charged into battle against Childminder, Hourman and the Eggtrons. The portal continued to destabilise, creating a time storm. A bolt of energy struck the Childminder, de-aging her into an egg. The time storm began to spread and Hourman, freed from Corky's control, saved them all by transporting them into the present. Childminder's egg was taken to the present, carried by Betsy Ross and Molly Pitcher.[2]
