The Church of Blood originated in the small European country of Zandia. Beginning in 1202, Christian knights of the Fourth Crusade pillaged Zandia and massacred its people. An unnamed priest led the Zandians in fighting back against the Crusaders and ultimately drove them from their country. Shortly afterwards, the priest had the pit in his church filled with the blood of slain Crusaders. A year later the priest bathed in the pit of blood, which he claimed gave him strength and immortality, and took the name of the first Brother Blood. During his life time, the original Brother Blood founded the Church of Blood, in which he himself was worshiped.
Blood controlled Zandia and the Church gained thousands of believers, many of whom came from outside the country as the Church sought the strongest to be its disciples while Zandia's own people were left to die. On his hundredth birthday, Brother Blood was slain by his son, who became the new Brother Blood. Since then, this has set a cycle in which one Brother Blood after another grew in power, until he was slain and succeeded by his own children.
In the present day, the Church of Blood's power and influence has grown considerably, having discreetly placing its members in governments, businesses, universities, and the news media. The Church attempted to seize control of the world but only to be thwarted by the Teen Titans.
