The Cobweb Kid was a superhero in Megalopolis who was often at odds with the Inferior Five.
History
Before becoming a superhero, he was a dimwitted person (a 'dumb cluck', as the villain Blast describes him). He had a good relationship with his Aunt Meg, being very protective of her and making her spider-themed shawls.
He was sent by a comic editor to find Thor, who had signed a contract but fled when he learned he would have to shave his beard. The Cobweb Kid encountered the Inferior Five before they tracked down Dr. Diabolical, who had been disguised as an old woman. Confusing the Cobweb Kid's Aunt Meg for the doctor, they attacked her, getting chased off by the Cobweb Kid.[1]
Later, a race of aliens invade Earth, and all heroes are called to help, and the Cobweb Kid responds to the call. While many of the other heroes fall, such as Sub-Moron and Matchstick Kid and Whatchamaycallit of the Kookie Quartet, he appears to be the most adept at fighting. However, after White Feather is knocked into him, the Cobweb Kid falls under the influence of the alien's 'evil eye,' causing him to believe he is an actual spider. Dumb Bunny questions if he will ever be the same again.
After Superman stealthily defeats the aliens, the Inferior Five get the credit for the victory. Partnering with the other irritated heroes, they planned to ambush the Five.[2]
Notes
- This version of Cobweb Kid, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022–2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
Trivia
- Cobweb Kid is a fairly obvious parody of Spider-Man even down to having the same costume.
