History

Wealthy little Cornigo was a curiosity among the nations of the post-WWII world, comprising only a few square miles of glittering palaces along the southern coast of Europe. Casinos and pleasure palaces attracted tourists from every corner of the world. Also, uniquely, dueling was legal. Any enemies were free to settle their differences in a final fashion, with no trouble about it from the authorities. This policy attracted trouble, as it was meant to. A great deal of lucrative wagering took place on these affairs.

Major Vixlar, the most famous duelist of three countries, agreed to meet the world-famous Mr. Paragon in Cornigo, to settle a matter of honor, with pistols, at sunrise. Vixlar at this time was being hunted by the Blackhawk Squadron, who arrived just barely too late to stop Paragon from shooting Vixlar dead. It soon became apparent to Blackhawk that Vixlar, the international criminal, had been only a cat's paw for Mr. Paragon. Blackhawk and Paragon, and their seconds, then clashed in a more informal melee, with Paragon's henchmen getting the worst of it. Paragon himself fled the scene, and threw a bomb back into the fight behind him, meaning to blow up his own men along with the Blackhawks. That didn't work out either; Paragon then lost a lengthy fistfight with Blackhawk, and was arrested for murder.
