Meanwhile, a group of super-villains crash Green Arrow and Black Canary's wedding reception. While the various heroes present deal with the villains, Pied Piper and Trickster attempt to sneak away. They notice a television monitor featuring a pre-recorded "wedding gift" from the Joker and realize that it is likely a bomb. They heave the bomb into the thick of the fray, then dash off before anyone notices.

At Project Cadmus, Jimmy Olsen continues to mutate. His physical essence splits between his ever-shifting corporeal body, and an astral self which appears to have super-strength. After accidentally destroying a bunch of extremely expensive robots, Jimmy's dual essence merges together into liquid form and he pours himself down a drainage ditch into the sewer.

Meanwhile, Donna Troy, Bob the Monitor, Jason Todd, the Jokester and Green Lantern arrive in Gotham City on Earth-15. They meet this world's counterparts to the Justice League including Batman (who is actually Jason Todd in this reality), as well as Green Lantern, the Atom and Wonder Woman. Naturally, the two Jason Todds begin fighting one another, and Donna Troy has to break them up. The Superman of this dimension, (Zod) arrives and tells Bob the Monitor that he has scanned the Earth for their missing colleague Ray Palmer, but has found no evidence of him. With no other leads to follow, the heroes depart for another reality.

Back on New Earth, Athena brings many of the women from her shelter including Harleen and Holly to Themyscira. The boat carrying them is moored several hundred yards away from the shoreline and Athena tells them that they must swim to reach the island. Complicating matters is the fact that the water beneath them is filled with various predatory sea monsters. Harley literally leaps at the opportunity and cannonballs into the water shouting "Cowabunga!" Holly, growing more reluctant with this venture at every turn, grabs a spear and follows suit.

| StoryTitle2 = The Origin of General Zod
| Synopsis2 = General Zod was a military leader on the planet Krypton and was the descendent of a long line of military men including Admiral Dru-Zod. When the scientist Jor-El warned the Kryptonian Science Council of their home world’s imminent destruction, Zod was one of the few who believed him. Repulsed that the Science Council ignored Jor-El's warnings, Zod, along with his colleague Non and lover Ursa, led an insurrection against that ultimately led to their capture. Ironically, it was Jor-El who was chosen to serve as Zod's jailor. Seeking a more humane alternative to the death penalty, Jor-El imprisoned the three insurrectionists inside of an insubstantial null reality known as the Phantom Zone. Inside the Phantom Zone, Zod, Ursa and Non survived Krypton’s destruction. As years passed, they discovered the ruins of an old Kryptonian military base Fort Rozz inside of the Phantom Zone. Fort Rozz maintained its physical integrity and those residing in it could become solid again as well. Zod and Ursa conceived a son in Fort Rozz whom they named Lor-Zod. Through the child, the three Kryptonians were eventually able to break free of the Phantom Zone. They came to Earth to get revenge upon the last surviving Kryptonian, the son of their jailor – Superman.

Countdown #30 is an issue of the series Countdown (Volume 1) with a cover date of October, 2007.

Synopsis for "Family Feud"

Buddy Blank brings the Karate Kid and Una to Brother Eye. Brother Eye scans the Kid and determines that the virus that is infecting him may be the progenitor for an event known as the Great Disaster.

Synopsis for "The Origin of General Zod"

General Zod was a military leader on the planet Krypton and was the descendant of a long line of military men including Admiral Dru-Zod. When the scientist Jor-El warned the Kryptonian Science Council of their home world's imminent destruction, Zod was one of the few who believed him. Ironically, it was Jor-El who was chosen to serve as Zod's jailor. Seeking a more humane alternative to the death penalty, Jor-El imprisoned the three insurrectionists inside of an insubstantial null reality known as the Phantom Zone. Inside the Phantom Zone, Zod, Ursa and Non survived Krypton's destruction.

Admiral Zod's full name, Dru-Zod, is mentioned for the first time in this issue. Dru-Zod was also the given name for the original Earth-One General Zod. Admiral Zod's ship, the Doomsday is the same vessel that Lex Luthor once used in an effort to destroy Metropolis. [1]
  • Themyscira is mis-spelled as Themyscria in this issue.
  • Brother Eye makes reference to the Great Disaster in this issue. The coming of a Great Disaster has been foretold by the Monitors since the beginning of the series. In Pre-Crisis continuity, the Great Disaster was an event that took place on Earth-AD (home dimension of OMAC and Kamandi), which turned the world into an apocalyptic wasteland.
