Synopsis for "Homeward Bound"

On Apokolips, with Brother Eye having failed to assimilate Apokolips, Darkseid gloats over Monitor Solomon. As Darkseid looks over a chessboard, he scolds Solomon for having a king he could not control. He reveals that he knows that Solomon is the one who caused Captain Atom to be corrupted and become Monarch after the events of the Blüdhaven Disaster. Solomon argues that he still has the Morticoccus Virus which will kill all the metahumans and even the New Gods. Darkseid laughs, telling them that the metahumans and the New Gods will have no place in Darkseid’s plan for the future, a so-called Fifth World. Unbeknownst to the two, Atom is masquerading as one of the pieces on Darkseid’s chessboard, eavesdropping on them. He sinks even smaller and goes to find Karate Kid. However, Firestorm forces Atom to return to his normal size. When Atom sees the other heroes, joined by Jimmy Olsen and the Hairies, he scolds them, telling them that Karate is too great a threat and they cannot stop the Morticoccus Virus. Jimmy wants to confront Darkseid. Others want to take Karate Kid back to the Positive-Matter Universe Earth and find a cure, despite Atom’s warnings. Red Robin endorses killing Karate Kid. As the heroes argue over what to do, Solomon appears to them. He reveals that Darkseid has caused Jimmy Olsen to be a repository of the power of the recently slain New Gods so that Darkseid can use the power hidden within Jimmy to as-yet unknown ends. The heroes continue to argue over what to do with Karate Kid who is dying. Thinking inaction folly, Solomon teleports them away. They emerge on what they believe to be Earth. Atom again voices his concerns, saying that they must decide here and now whether Karate Kid lives or dies.
