Synopsis for "Coup d'État, Part 3: Henhouse Confidential"

After the Authority began their takeover of the United States, Grifter cannot allow them to do this and he has a plan. Grifter recruits Dolby and drives to Palm Springs to meet Julius Wood, a.k.a. Warmaker who was an enemy of the Wildcats and an arms dealer in experimental weaponry, to negotiate for a negative gamma-particle bomb. But the deal turns sour as Grifter had no intention of paying Julius for the bomb in which it led to a very brief shootout which ended in Julius' death.

Afterward, Grifter tries to get Jack Marlowe to join in his war against the Authority and he explains his plan by having Marlowe to teleport the bomb into the Authority's Carrier that will annihilate them and shunt their remains into a singularity. But Marlowe doesn't agree with Cole's plan, stating that they would be no different from the Authority. Furthermore, he believes the Authority's takeover of America will be short-lived and getting involved in their scheme would only complicate matters. Though Cole is displeased with Marlowe's inaction, he concedes in not proceeding with his plan and hold on to the bomb if the Authority oversteps.

But Marlowe mulls over Cole's words over the possibility the Authority might come after them next, and he eventually decide to directly speak the Authority about the dangers of using endless cycles of violence for what amounts to be only short-term effects. He dons his old Spartan uniform to make a point. Marlowe urges the Authority to look at the long term, but they remain committed in their goals.

Marlowe does what he feels is sensible for his position. He ignores the Authority and continues to run HALO. In his mind, the Authority's hostile coup d'etat will only have short-term effects. He decides to concentrate on the long term goal of improving people's lives.
