Synopsis for Captain Triumph: "The Vanishing Vandals!"
Elderly polite Mr. W.W. Lamont visits Kim Meredith, Biff, and Lance Gallant at their [home? office? HQ?]; Lamont has been falsely accused in connection with a series of holdups, where the robbers have been traced to Lamont's home, at 88 Herrick Lane. Kim and Biff are eager for Lance to take the case, but Lance has serious doubts about it. Actually Lance just doesn't want Kim and Biff to tag along and get into trouble, so he plans to sneak out without them; in the next room Kim and Biff decide that if Lance won't help this old guy, they will, so they go visit him, in fact they give him a lift to his house. Lance Gallant touches the mark of mystery on his wrist ... and immediately blends with the spirit of his twin brother, Michael, to form the fearless Captain Triumph! He leaves via the window, and also goes to visit old Mr. Lamont.
At Lamont's nice little suburban house, Kim picks an out-of-season flower from the lawn, and vanishes; soon her voice is heard from beneath the lawn. Biff does some stomping and finds a trap door, then gets yanked down through it by some robbers, who also grab Lamont and drag him down the same hatch. Brief seconds later Captain Triumph arrives, sprinting, and spots Kim's car; nothing else seems amiss. Then Inspector [name?] shows up with a uniformed cop, and hopefully a search warrant; they walk right into Lamont's house and find nobody home. Lance learns that Lamont had lived there alone for 20 years and that the prior owner had been named James J. Cofford; this prompts Captain Triumph to recall an old Vaudeville performer (Coffordo the Magician, famous for his vanishing act), and to form an unlikely hunch. Some library research into the newspapers of 20 years ago confirms his hunch; he sprints back to Lamont's house and searches it very thoroughly for trick panels or hidden doors or secret rooms or corridors, to no avail.
Meanwhile nearby in the concealed basement, Kim and Biff and Lamont and four robbers are meeting the bad guy boss, Mr. Moxon. The bad guys had a hideout nearby in the neighboring Mr. Moxon's house, and had found this basement by accident while expanding their own, figured out how to make use of it, and weren't going to let anybody tell anybody where it was, so it's time for some murders. Lamont and Biff and Kim are tied up and shut inside Lamont's secret basement with some cans of deadly gas which is expected to kill them in about ten minutes. Just after the bad guys leave the room, Captain Triumph accidentally finds the fake flower that conceals the spring that opens the trapdoor that accesses the secret cellar, and he rescues the three of them from the gas, then busts through the connecting door into the adjacent basement and beats up all the bad guys. Moxon dashes upstairs and pulls piles of money out of his safe, stuffing it into a bag, but he's soon cornered by Captain Triumph. Moxon pulls out an explosive-rigged casket and detonates it, bringing part of his house down on top of Triumph, and runs away again, and is quickly caught again, and turned over to the police. Captain Triumph changes back into Lance Gallant.
