The Crimson Centipede was a beast created by a S.T.A.R. Labs unit's main field of study, "transpecies modification for military application."
History
When a group of "meninist" terrorists named XY broke into this S.T.A.R. Labs biotech firm hoping to steal a chemical compound believed to make women subservient, they and Master Chief Steve Trevor, who had been taken hostage by them, were taken aback by the giant centipede.
Only with the arrival of Wonder Woman could the terrorists and the Crimson Centipede be defeated.[1]

- Crimson Centipede was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, first appearing in Wonder Woman #169. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Crimson Centipede first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Wonder Woman: Steve Trevor Special #1 by Tim Seeley and Christian Duce.
