The Culper Ring was a secret government task force that answered directly to the President.History
The Culper Ring was a spy ring organized by Benjamin Tallmadge under the orders of General George Washington in the summer of 1778. The Ring's task was to infiltrate British-controlled New York City and report troop dispositions and intentions. The Ring conducted covert operations until the end of the American Revolutionary War, though its heyday was between 1778 and 1781. Although the Culper Ring appeared to dissolve shortly after the war. It in fact remained in silent activity well into the modern era.
The Culper Ring functioned under the direct command of the United States President. A group of rogue Culper agents, who split off from the group in 1977, became known as the Setauket Ring, after the town in New York where the historical Culper ring was originally formed.
In 2002, a pandemic swept across the globe destroying every mammal carrying a Y chromosome. As the calamity passed, the only members of the Culper Ring to survive were its female agents. One operator, known only as Agent 355, was charged with protecting Secretary of Agriculture Margaret Valentine who, by chain of succession, was now placed in the office of the Chief Executive. Agent 355 was later given the duty of safe guarding young Yorick Brown, the only known human male to survive the plague.
