The origins of the man known as "Curtis Knox" is shrouded in mystery. At some point, he acquired immortality and continued living for centuries. During this time, he fought Mayan warriors and crusaders. However, he always survived. By 1888, Knox lived in London. During this period, he murdered several prostitutes under the alias "Jack the Ripper". He later moved to Germany and became involved with the Nazis during World War II.
By 2007, he lived as Dr. Curtis Knox in the United States and was married to a woman named Sophia. Knox was recruited by Lex Luthor, to operate on the meteor infected. Knox's procedure removed their abilities and much of their memories. However, Knox had his own agenda. He murdered several of the patients, hoping to transplant their internal organs to his wife, extending her life. One of the people he targeted was Chloe Sullivan. But, before Knox could cut out her heart, he was stopped and apprehended by Clark Kent. Kent handed Knox over to the Martian Manhunter, who imprisoned him.
