The D'amsi shuttle is a multipurpose spacecraft employed by the D'amsi, the interstellar police force for the Cooperative, a highly advanced spacefaring civilization in the Milky Way Galaxy.[1]
History
A shuttle's primary role is to transport D'amsi from their interstellar motherships in orbit to the planet below and vice versa.[1] Shuttles also are used for routine patrols, interplanetary journeys, reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, and prisoner transport.[1][2][3]
The D'amsi shuttle is well equipped to handle its various roles. The ship boasts a sophisticated interplanetary communications array as well as sensors that can detect and identify a wide range of energy signatures.[1] Because D'amsi sometimes land on culturally primitive worlds, the shuttle has a cloaking device that renders it invisible to the naked eye as well as electronic detection.[1] If the shuttle is visually recorded while uncloaked, it has technology that can erase film or data files in cell phones, camcorders, and other recording devices.[3]
The shuttle also has a tractor beam located in its rear compartment above the ship's ventral drop hatch. This beam locks onto a person or object which then gently rises toward the shuttle as if riding an elevator. The polarity of the tractor beam can be reversed so that it lowers a person or object to the ground. The beam is typically used to bring aboard particularly dangerous criminals or rescue people stranded in terrain where landing the shuttle would be unsafe. The tractor beam can only be used while the ship is visible, presumably due to the power demands of the cloaking device.[3]
A D'amsi shuttle's crew consists of a pilot and navigator, who are in the craft's front section.[1] The rear section of the shuttle has seating for several passengers as well as a brig for prisoners.
