Synopsis for "Catwoman's Killer Caper"
This story is reprinted from Batman Adventures #2.
After a routine burglary, Catwoman is paid a surprise visit by the Joker via a special videophone. Joker gently prods her into stealing the Crown Jewels of England, framing it as a certain way of attracting Batman's attention, and asks for a small favor: that she steal and send him a certain "insignificant item" from the Tower of London. Catwoman accepts the challenge, and quickly succeeds in stealing the jewels, leaving behind a card with a bat insignia as a taunt to Batman.
Batman quickly catches wind of the robbery, and travels to England in his civilian guise of Bruce Wayne. After a guided tour of the tower from the curator Mr. Helmsley, he eventually deduces how Catwoman had stolen the jewels: instead of taking them out of the building, she had actually hidden them beneath the pedestal, intending to retrieve them later. Shortly after, Batman saves an English news crew from an escaped convict, and asks that they deliver a message to Catwoman calling her a "harmless petty thief".
The message enrages Catwoman, as planned. As midnight nears, she returns to the Tower of London to retrieve the jewels, only to encounter Batman. The Caped Crusader chases Catwoman across London's rooftops and eventually recovers the jewels, but fails to apprehend Catwoman. Once again, the Joker is left the ultimate winner: Catwoman has sent him the item he'd requested, and Batman remains unaware of his involvement.

Synopsis for "Survivor Syndrome"
This story is reprinted from Batman Adventures #27.
After his wife is killed in a mob shootout, Olympic athlete Tom Dalton is consumed by grief and eventually devotes himself to vigilantism, complete with a costume mimicking Batman's. A perturbed Batman investigates the copycat, and eventually finds Dalton's hideaway. Dalton, badly wounded by a mugger's bullet, staggers inside shortly afterward.
Though he emphasizes deeply with Dalton, Batman also recognizes that Dalton's lack of experience may endanger civilians in the future. After nursing Dalton back to health, Batman subjects Dalton to a rigorous series of exercises, ostensibly meant to prove Dalton a worthy vigilante. Concentrating on the exercises eases Dalton's mind, and his nightmares begin to fade.
However, Dalton's peace of mind is quickly shattered when his wife's killer, Pete "The Hit" Wilson, returns to Gotham City. Upon spotting Wilson on the street, Dalton immediately attacks him, but is subdued by Wilson's gang and taken to a half-demolished building for interrogation. Batman quickly tracks Wilson down and subdues his men; in the ensuing confusion, Dalton breaks free and chases Wilson through the building.
The building's rotten timbers eventually collapse, leaving Dalton hanging onto a pipe and Wilson clinging desperately to his legs. Dalton is tempted to let go so both he and Wilson will fall to their deaths, but ultimately allows Batman to pull them both to safety. After Wilson and his gang are taken into custody, Batman and Dalton share a private conversation by the grave of Dalton's wife, each affirming what they choose to live for.
