Synopsis for "No Exit"

This story is reprinted from Adventures in the DC Universe #11.

Green Lantern Kyle Rayner takes a break from work to hang out with Wonder Woman, who happens to be in New York City to speak at a conference for Helena Sandsmark. Wonder Woman cuts their conversation short to deal with a crashed bus, moving it away from buildings as it catches fire, while Green Lantern tries to evacuate the passengers.

One of the passengers is drunken, suicidal and threatening the bus's driver. Green Lantern apprehends the man, but in the process the man shoots himself, depressing Kyle, in spite of Diana's attempts to encourage Kyle about all the people they saved and possibility of doing better should a similar situation arise in the future.

Green Lantern's mood falls further when a group of children insult his performance, and his favorite coffee shop closes early on him. As Kyle returns to work and struggles to complete his artwork before the upcoming deadline he finds himself being pulled into a pit of despair, literally, as his body is being sucked into an indoor vortex his ring cannot fight, save for slipping off his finger and sending a distress signal.

The signal reaches Diana, who puts off speaking at the conference to see what Kyle's problem is. She calls Jason Blood away as well, when she finds Kyle's ring without him. As a specialist in demonology, Blood doesn't have the ability to combat the sorcery of Lord Toxxis, whose agents have been preparing Kyle Rayner for abduction for far too long, but Jason can send Diana to the dark land of Lord Toxxis, though the divine power that fuels her wonderful powers has to be redirected to fuel the bridge to the Pit of Despair, leaving Diana a mere mortal so long as she stays there.

Imprisoned in the territory of Lord Toxxis, Kyle cannot remember ever being free of it, or anything else but the pit of despair. Seeing Diana successfully fight off two of Lord Toxxis enforcers inspires Kyle to imagine that there could be something else, however, and fight back himself. Defeating Lord Toxxis proves unfeasible, but the hope Diana and Kyle spread starts to become contagious among the prisoners of Toxxis. As Toxxis feeds on despair, Kyle Rayner no longer become a viable source of nourishment, and is banished back to Earth, along with Diana for inspiring him.

Synopsis for "The Truth About Cats and Gods"

This story is reprinted from Adventures in the DC Universe #19.

Diana has settled into a Gotham City hotel. After she has fallen asleep, Catwoman sneaks in, heading straight for the drawer Diana put the Lasso of Truth in.

Bragg, who is paying Catwoman fifty thousand USD for the theft, is complaining about how long she is taken, as the Pahldinian Ritual he seeks to perform must be done in a narrow window of time, when planets align. Bragg's prisoner, the archaeologist, Fuller, mocks Braggs for being a poor student, for Bragg's lack of knowledge regarding the Amulet of Kalnos, but with Catwoman bringing Bragg the Lasso of Truth, learning the ritual to unlock its power from Fuller just became a lot easier.

Or so it would seem. Fuller refuses to answer Bragg's questions, leading Bragg to believe Catwoman brought him a fake Lasso of Truth. Catwoman suggests Bragg may be using the lariat incorrectly, but Bragg orders his conspirators to shoot her.

Catwoman escapes and begins to scheme about getting the money she's owed from Bragg, while brag apprehends another man from the street, promising to shoot him if Fuller does not talk. Seeing Bragg begin the ritual to grant himself the body and abilities and of cat-deity Kalnos, Catwoman decides to worry about her money later and flee.

Catwoman is caught by Wonder Woman, who demands the Lasso of Truth back, but Catwoman lies and claims Bragg as Kalnos, who is making his way to her, still seeking revenge for "deceiving" him, stole it. Kalnos Bragg is only interested in Catwoman's murder, but Wonder Woman refuses to let that happen, and Catwoman tries to slip away as the two fight, but Wonder Woman manages to catch up to her and informs Catwoman that she might reconsider protecting her from Kalnos if the Lasso of Truth is not returned.

Kalnos Bragg catches up to Wonder Woman, their fight resumes, and Bragg's power proves to be superior, with Wonder Woman slowly being worn down. Still, Wonder Woman does prove sufficiently distracting for Catwoman to actually escape this time, but weighing her options she concludes it would be better for herself in the long run to return the lariat to Diana, defeating the guards Bragg left behind, and freeing Fuller and the other hostages in the process.

The Lasso of Truth can't keep Kalnos Bragg bound for long, as he forcible loosens his way free, but as he struggles Wonder Woman is able to question Kalnos Bragg and determine one of his weaknesses, returning him to his human form and rendering him unconscious. While Diana was taking away Bragg's divine abilities, however, she was unable to prevent Catwoman from making off with the Amulet of Kalnos he used to get them, and she remains apprehensive about what Catwoman might ultimately do with it, but thankful Catwoman at least helped clean up the mess she made in Gotham.
