A citation on the DC Database is a reference to the published source, (though not always the original source). A source could be the comic, film, tv show, or website the fact originally came from.

Once the source is found, {{Citation}} or {{citation}} should be replaced with <ref>Link to the source</ref>. Sources that are used multiple times have to be reused with <ref name=NAME>Link to the source</ref>, where NAME is a sensible abbreviation that can be expected to be used consistently on the page - BM404, SMOS17, JL-V4-1. We don't have firm standards, but use something similar to what's on the page.
