Synopsis for "The Case of the Real-Gone Flash!"

This story is reprinted from The Flash #128.

In 6363, magician Abra Kadabra sulks over the state of his profession. In his era, advanced technology has made magic tricks a thing of the past. When he hears that scientists have developed a time machine, he decides to steal it and go back to a time when stage magicians were treated like celebrities.

His plan is successful, and he arrives in Central City of the 20th Century. Using his futuristic technology to perform simple magic tricks, (and forcing his audiences to applaud), he is able to schedule several shows at a local hall. However, no one attends his magic acts because they are at a World Series game. After perusing the Picture News, Kadabra determines that the only way to gain attention in Central City, is by stealing something big. He decides to attend the dedication of a new statue in town, and make it disappear in front of everyone. After doing this, he uses his advanced technology to paralyze all the witnesses, including Barry Allen, who is therefore unable to pursue him as the Flash.

The next day, the Flash determines that Kadabra will likely strike next at the library, where the oldest book ever printed is being put on display. He is correct, but the magician foils him again. This time Kadabra forces the Flash to clap his hands and stamp his feet instead of chasing after him.

Later, Kadabra announces that he will put on the greatest magic show ever seen. A large crowd comes to see this performance. When the speedster arrives, he is sent flying off the planet by Kadabra, leaving his Flash costume behind.

Barry hurtles through space and eventually lands on an extremely small planetoid which has an atmosphere and gravity similar to Earth's. Using his super-speed, he is able to propel himself back home. He then tracks down Kadabra by vibrating at the same frequency as the radiation the magician used to send him into space, and thus follows the trail left behind from his costume. After arriving at Kadabra's base, the Flash easily defeats the magician by moving him into the path of his own paralyzing hypno-beam.

Synopsis for "The Boy of Steel vs. the Thing of Steel!"

This story is reprinted from Superboy #68.

When a defective duplicating ray created by Professor Dalton strikes Superboy, it creates a grotesque, stupid, imperfect duplicate of the Boy of Steel which nonetheless possesses all of his incredible power. Moreover, it is not affected by Green Kryptonite. Superboy remarks that the creature is "bizarre", to which the creature replies, "Him call me...(mumble)...Bizarro! Is...is that my name?" Bizarro is basically good-hearted, but cannot control his powers very well, and proves dangerous to Smallville. However, he is befriended by a blind girl named Melissa, who senses his benevolent nature. Superboy is unable to defeat Bizarro by conventional means, but finally senses that the metal of the demolished duplicator ray itself can destroy him. Bizarro deliberately flies into the piece of metal Superboy holds, destroying himself, but creating a vibration that restores Melissa's sight. Superboy muses that Bizarro may well have understood what effect his destruction would have on Melissa's eyes and, as the Boy of Steel flies away, he hears Melissa say "I never saw Bizarro myself, while blind! But I know, from his gentle voice, that he must have had a kind face!"

Synopsis for "The Day 100,000 People Vanished!"

This story is reprinted from Green Lantern (Volume 2) #7.

When the entire population of Valdale suddenly vanishes, Green Lantern's astral form is summoned by the Guardians of the Universe. The Guardians tell him of Sinestro, an alien they chose to be the Green Lantern of Korugar. However, Sinestro abused his powers and used them to enslave his planet and install himself as dictator.

Sinestro turns evil

The Renegade Green Lantern

As punishment, the Guardians stripped Sinestro of his powers and banished him to Qward in the Antimatter Universe. They then warn that Sinestro has formed an alliance with the Weaponers of Qward to finally defeat the Green Lantern, by potentially exploiting his vulnerability when his power ring's 24 hour charge runs out. Part of the plan was to transport people from Valdale to Qward in a sweeping attempt to capture Green Lantern, who was scheduled to be in that town.

Sinestro rants

Having his mind returned to his body (this time, allowing Green Lantern to remember his encounter) Hal flies to the next city which is targeted by Sinestro. In order to prevent the people there from being transported to Qward, Green Lantern makes them all invisible, and only he is transported to Qward. There he battles the Qwardian Weaponers, however surrenders when Sinestro promises to return the people of Valedale to Earth. In doing so, Green Lantern is incased in a yellow bubble, and Sinestro and the Qwardians time the moments left in the power ring's charge. However, when they release Green Lantern they are shocked to find he still has power in his ring and is able to defeat them all.

He reveals to Sinestro that he had found a tiny hole in the yellow bubble he was trapped in and used his power ring to fire compressed air at the clock they were watching to make it reach the 24 hour mark faster so that they would think that his ring ran out of power when it still had some time left. He then imprisons Sinestro in a force bubble of his own before returning to Earth and appearing at an opening of a Boys Settlement House in Valedale.

Synopsis for "The Slave Ship of Space!"

This story is reprinted from Justice League of America #3.

As the various members of the Justice League of America are out stopping various natural disasters on Earth, their JLA contact devices suddenly break down prompting them all to return to their headquarters and find out what's going on. There they are all immobilized by the space tyrant known as Kanjar Ro, who has also immobilized the entire planet. In order to free their world, the Justice League is forced into helping Kanjar Ro defeat his enemies: Hyathis, Kromm and Sayyar.

Using Batman and Snapper Carr as bait to trap Superman in Kryptonite gas, Kanjar Ro has Aquaman, J'onn J'onzz, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern board his space boat to stop his enemies. Martian Manhunter captures Kromm, while Aquaman and Wonder Woman are used to capture Hyathis, and finally Green Lantern and Flash are used to capture Sayyar.

With his opponents captured, Kanjar Ro refuses to free the Justice League unless they promise not to attack him. However, the League members have recorded all of Ro's foes saying his name (having all three say his name at once would free the people of Earth from Kanjar Ro's power) and manage to free themselves, capture Kanjar Ro, and save Superman before the Kryptonite gas kills him. After the battle has ended, the group banish Kanjar Ro and his opponents on a meteor planet, with Green Lantern using his power ring to make it impossible for them to escape.
