"Batman: "... Battles the Living Beast-Bomb!": This story is reprinted from Detective Comics #339.

DC Special #16 is an issue of the series DC Special (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 1975.

Synopsis for Batman: "... Battles the Living Beast-Bomb!

This story is reprinted from Detective Comics #339.

A series of strange robberies are committed by a man who can tear open a bank vault with his bare hands and jump sixty feet. This person turns out to be Wally Hewitt, who eventually turns himself over to the police demanding to be locked up. When in a jail cell he explains to them that he was considered worthless by his peers due to his lack of athletic prowess, so he began studying bionics and built a device that could transfer the abilities of one animal and give them to another. When he tried to use it on a gorilla, the beast became super intelligent and evil, and mentally forced Wally to commit the crimes.

Finishing his story, he is suddenly compelled to break out, and soon finds himself in a battle against Batman and Robin, forced to do so by command of Karmak the Gorilla. However, Karmak then tricks Batman into battling him directly, and uses Wally's device to gain all Batman's abilities. Sometime later, Karmak returns with a bomb strapped to his chest threatening to blow up all of Gotham City.

Batman and Robin deduce that if he holds the Gorilla off the ground, the bomb will not explode when the timer reaches zero, and so Batman and Robin overpower the beast and manage to hold it off the ground until the bomb runs out of time and deactivates. Afterwards, Batman tells Wally that if he's interested he can speak to his good friend Bruce Wayne to get him a job at the Alfred Foundation.

Synopsis for Wonder Woman: "Wonder Woman -- Gorilla!"

This story is reprinted from Wonder Woman #170.

Wonder Woman is enjoying her time on Paradise Island when she suddenly encounters a group of gorillas from outer space. The gorillas announce that they plan to select mates from among the females of the island and one gorilla in particular selects Wonder Woman to be his mate. The Amazon begs the male gorillas to leave for fear that their presence will cause the amazons to lose their powers. She nobly engages the gorillas in combat but their fighting skills rival those of the Amazon herself, the gorillas are even immune to her magic lasso. At one point, the gorillas use a molecule transformer to change Wonder Woman into a female gorilla. They soon realize that Wonder Woman is much more appealing as a human female and they decide to change her back to her original form. Wonder Woman then urges the gorillas to use their transformer to change themselves to human males to they can be similar. The idea appeals to the simians and they agree to her plan. Once human, Wonder Woman uses her magic lasso to make them comply and follow her orders. She instructs them to return back to space and to go in peace. She is finally relieved that the Amazons will retain their powers.

Synopsis for The Flash: "The Reign of the Super-Gorilla!"

This story is reprinted from The Flash #127.

Gorilla Grodd, occupying the human body of William Dawson, is released from prison. He travels to Gorilla City, where his human body devolves into his old gorilla form. There, he falls in love with Boka, the bride-to-be of his rival Solovar.

Determined to win Boka's affection, he uses a machine in his laboratory, which had remained undisturbed during his imprisonment, to cause his body to emit neo-magnetic radiation, causing anyone who looks at him to instantly take a liking to him. It works as planned, and soon he is crowed king of Gorilla City, with Boka as his wife.

Not content with merely controlling Gorilla City, Grodd flies to Central City, where he quickly wins the admiration of its citizens. Barry Allen, alarmed at everyone's positive reaction to Grodd's return, changes into the Flash to investigate. However, he also feels a great admiration for the gorilla when arriving in his presence. Leaving town to ponder the dilemma, he discovers that Grodd's radiation only has a hundred-mile radius. However, no matter how fast he goes, he cannot get back into the city without being affected by the neo-magnetic radiation. Meanwhile, the Statewide Party decides that Grodd would make the perfect candidate for governor. Grodd is ecstatic, planning to move from there to the presidency.

After several days have passed, the Flash has still been unable to get into the city without being affected by the radiation. However, he noticed that on a particular day, when solar flare activity was particularly high, the strength of the radiation was not as intense as normal. He vibrated at the same frequency as the solar flares, and was able to easily enter the city and apprehend Grodd.

Synopsis for Superman: "Titano the Super-Ape!"

This story is reprinted from Superman #138.

At his Fortress of Solitude, Superman looks at his time monitor to check up on Titano in Earth's distant past. To his surprise, the creature suddenly vanishes from sight and reappears in modern day Metropolis. As the gigantic ape terrorizes the city, Superman's initial attack is rebuffed due to the super-ape's Kryptonite vision. As it captures Lois Lane, Superman puts on his specially built lead suit to battle the beast.

The lead suit only proves to be a temporary protection as Superman flies too fast and the wind resistance causes the suit to melt away. After following Titano for a time, fixing the damage that he does, Superman realizes that Titano seems to be going for spherical objects. The Man of Steel then realizes that Titano was collecting a series of spheres in the Earth's past. Traveling back in time, Superman finds that they are some kind of gigantic coconut type fruit. Bringing one to the present, Titano begins to break it open and drink its contents.

This distracts the super-beast enough for Superman to save Lois Lane and then knock Titano back through the time barrier returning him to the past era where Superman had originally placed him.
