Synopsis for "The World of Living Phantoms!"

The world of Aku has lived in a state of peace for centuries as the people there have gone into a state of suspended animation while their technology create mind-images that live their lives in perpetual immortality. However, the alarms on Aku go off signaling an impending doom. This impending danger is also noticed by the Green Lantern of the planet Xudar, Tomar-Re, who defends his sector of space. However, Tomar-Re must stop space-monsters that have arrived on his planet. He contacts Hal Jordan via their power rings and asks for his assistance. Hal suddenly bolts from Carol's front door (having made a date with her) without explanation to deal with the crisis.
Traveling to the planet Aku, Green Lantern is informed by mental contact by the Akuian scientist Ibr, that a number of the evil aspects of Aku's people have gained sentience and seeks to use antagony atoms to destroy all the good Akuians thought-images. Green Lantern goes up against the evil Ibr and his followers, however they pin his physical body to the ground forcing him to send out his own thought image to battle them, using his power ring to create the same effect on the opposing thought images. Hal then frees himself by creating a number of duplicates of his thought image to use their duplicate power-rings to free him from the weapon that has him pinned to the ground.
Checking on the physical bodies of the people from Aku, he uses his power ring to probe for the reason why evil thought images of themselves appeared. Green Lantern determines that the cause was from two lovers who cannot physically express their love caused a malfunction in the device. Freeing them and restoring their mobility, Green Lantern leaves them to start a new life, while the other people of Aku continue to live their phantom lives.
Afterwards, Hal travels to Xudar to help Tomar-Re. Recharging his power ring with Tomar's power battery, Hal helps Tomar defeat the space-monsters who flee the planet. With all said and done, Tomar-Re explains a few mysteries for Hal, that there are Green Lanterns in every sector of space and that they are chosen by the Guardians of the Universe. With this new information Hal returns to Earth, where he remembers he stood up Carol. While on another date with her, he says he'll tell her the truth once they're married. Carol scoffs at this idea and tells Hal that when he ditched her, she went out on a date with Green Lantern in an attempt to make Hal jealous, a white lie that Hal knows is not true.

Synopsis for "The Secret of the Golden Thunderbolts!"
This story is reprinted from Green Lantern (Volume 2) #2.
After a series of strange holes appear around Coast City, Hal Jordan laments over the fact that Carol Ferris loves Green Lantern more than she loves Hal Jordan. Hal is then confronted by a man named Telle-Teg, who asks for the help of Green Lantern, and went to Hal because he had heard of his rivalry for Carol's affections with Green Lantern from the newspapers. Wanting to know what it's about, Hal has a telepathic story beamed into his head:
Telle-Teg is from the Antimatter Universe on a planet call Qward, where being evil is lawful and being good is against the law. Telle-Teg and some other non-evil Qwardians have learned about a device that can transport them into the positive matter universe. The device however is being held by the Weaponers of Qward. Transporting himself across this device, Telle-Teg has since been followed by a Weaponer who has been trying to smite him with their golden thunderbolts. Hal agrees to find Green Lantern and leaves Telle-Teg alone while he changes. When Green Lantern arrives, Telle-Teg is attacked by a Weaponer, during the fight Green Lantern is able to force the evil Qwardian to flee, but Telle-Teg is killed in the fight. Hal then travels through the doorway into Qward, and battles the Weaponers, free's Telle-Teg's friends and brings them into the positive matter universe. After sealing the doorway closed, one of Telle-Teg's friends warn that he too spied on the Weaponers, and learned that their ultimate goal is to collect all the Green Lanterns in the positive matter universe.

Synopsis for "The World Within the Power Ring!"
This story is reprinted from Green Lantern (Volume 2) #26.
Over at Pieface and Tegra's home for supper one night, Hal relates to Pieface of another one of his adventures for his casebook: Explaining how one day he was apparently attacked by Abin Sur, the alien who gave him his Green Lantern power ring, however it turned out to be an illusion. Stranger still, Hal found himself shurnk down to a world within his power ring where Abin Sur had banished the alien wizard known as Myrwhydden. Unable to get revenge on the deceased Abin, Myrwhydden has decided to target Hal Jordan instead.
Believing Hal was powerless without his power ring on his finger, Myrwhydden is soon defeated when Hal is able to command his power ring to change the rock Myrwhydden is about to throw on him into a balloon that carries him to a lethal height. Proving once again that even though he wasn't wearing his power ring, Green Lantern can still command it.
