Synopsis for Sgt. Rock: "Eyes of a Blind Gunner"

This story is reprinted from Our Army at War #113.

During their current mission, Wildman's bazooka is destroyed and Jackie Johnson is upset that he has no machine gun. When they are waiting for a supply drop, they are attacked and the bazooka meant for Wildman is destroyed and they are forced to grab what they can. Having setup a dug out, during the next battle against Nazi forces, both Jackie and Wildman are caught in an explosion. Jackie finds himself temporarily blinded, and Wildman's hands are injured. However, in spite of these handicaps, the two manage to work together to operate the machine gun and fight off an approaching Nazi foot soldier battalion.

Synopsis for "Rider of the Winds"

This story is reprinted from Showcase #2.

A young Indian, named Eagle Feather after an eagle that soars the skies over the village, is given the job of guarding the Indian tribe's sheep from predators. In the act of saving a young lamb from quicksand, Eagle Feather slips in and becomes stuck himself. Godfather, the great eagle after which he was named, swoops down and comes to his rescue.

Meanwhile back at the sheep herd, a mountain lion dubbed Black Lightning kills all of the unguarded sheep, disgracing Eagle Feather and his family. The tribe wise man says that his only hope of regaining his honor is to slay the beast that killed the flock.

With the help of his eagle companion, Eagle Feather climbs up the mountain and manages to make Black Lightning fall over the edge to his death. He proudly wears a feather dropped by his friend, the great eagle, on his head as he returns to his tribe with head held high.

Synopsis for Hawkman: "Menace of the Matter Master"

This story is reprinted from The Brave and the Bold #35.

A new costumed criminal named the Matter Master, who has a magic wand that allows him to control all matter, has been sighted around Midway City committing fantastic robberies. When the most recent involved the creation of giant meteor creatures who are robbing the city art center, Hawkman and Hawkgirl go into action to try and stop the theft. The Matter Master manages to get away with the stolen loot by using his powers to make helicopter propellers attack the winged duo.

Later at his secret hideout, the Matter Master gloats over his recent victory are recalls how he gained his fantastic powers: How he was a scientist who accidentally discovered a new chemical, Mentachem, which he then fashioned into his magic wand to use for his own criminal gain.

The Matter Master next uses flowers to rob ancient Egyptian parchments from the Midway City Museum. This does not go unnoticed since Hawkman and Hawkgirl's Earthen alter-egos work at the museum. Using his enhanced sense of smell, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are able to track Matter Master back to his lair. However, the crook anticipated this move and has rigged the room to be air tight and have all it's oxygen siphoned out. However, Hawkman manages to smash the glass domed breathing apparatus the Matter Master is using to breathe, and forces him to turn the air back on. Defeated Matter Master is turned over to the authorities and his stolen loot recovered.

Synopsis for Viking Prince: "Threat of the Ice King"

In their travels across the icy peaks, Jon and his mute companion gain the attention of the wicked Ice King. Jon also must complete the fourth Task of Thor, which his minstrel vaguely writes, is to "awaken a sleeping rose".
