Dagger Marlin was a gangster and an enemy of Quicksilver.

History

Dagger Marlin was caught by Quicksilver, and was found guilty in court and sentenced to death by hanging. While leaving the courtroom Marlin threatened the court, claiming they should not be surprised if some of them hang too. On the day of his execution Marlin had the noose placed over his head but the rope broke, causing his unconscious body to fall to the floor. While planning to fix the scaffold the warden was interrupted by Marlin's lawyer, who got permission to attend the hanging and informed the warden that the law forbade them to hang a man twice. Marlin was put under his lawyer's custody until a higher court ruled what to do with him.

In hospital Marlin thanked his men for rigging the rope to break and learned that very few people knew he was still alive. He planned to get his revenge by ordering his men to rob a fur storage company to attract Quicksilver while he kidnapped the judge and the district attorney. When Quicksilver regained his consciousness after being hit over the head he was in a warehouse being greeted by Dagger Marlin. Marlin's men put the noose around the men's necks and kicked the chairs from underneath Quicksilver, but he used his acrobatic prowess to swing on the rope and kick Marlin's men. While being shot at one of the bullets severed the rope and freed Quicksilver, allowing him to deal with Marlin's men. As Quicksilver was freeing the district attorney and the judge Dagger Marlin escaped over a rotting wharf but fell through a hole, being hanged to death by old fishing tackle.

Notes

• This version of Dagger Marlin, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–1986 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the 2022-2023 Dark Crisis event. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
