Quote1 I wrote my graduate thesis on the police strike of '77, when you and your ex were in D.C. And by "ex" I mean Doctor Manhattan, the most powerful being in existence. Sorry for not pretending that I don't know who you are because we're supposed to leave "famous" people alone, but... you brought me here, Agent Blake. And before the FBI I was a PhD in history, so please don't treat me like I'm some kind of... fan. Quote2
Agent Petey src

Agent Dale Petey was an agent for the FBI's Anti-Vigilante Task Force and Laurie Blake's partner during her investigation into the conspiracy in Tulsa. Despite his profession, Petey was fascinated by vigilantes, leading him to catalogue his investigation on Peteypedia and eventually try to become a hero himself as Lubeman.

Dale Petey received a PhD in history with a particular focus on vigilantes. Petey was fascinated with them, having gleaned all the available information he could before he was hired as part of the FBI's Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Petey was a low-level employee, only tasked to run the slide projector, until he was selected by Laurie Blake to be her partner on an assignment in Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to his apparent unobtrusiveness.

Petey attempted to bond with Blake while on their mission because she herself used to be a vigilante and he had studied her history in school. Blake was uninterested in Petey's reverence for vigilantes of the past but mildly humored him with answers to his questions.

On one of their first nights in Tulsa, Blake seduced Petey to sleep with her when she had an acute longing for her ex-boyfriend Doctor Manhattan. [1]

While on their mission in Tulsa, Petey created Peteypedia to chronicle his investigation with evidence he compiled. [2]

Petey attempted to become a vigilante himself in Tulsa, using his slinky physique and canola oil in a skin-tight suit to attempt to fight crime. However, he caught the attention of the masked detective Sister Night, who chased him down the street. Petey, dousing himself in lube, escape into a sewer grate from Abar's clutches. When Abar returned to the police headquarters and reported the sighting, the other officers dubbed the unknown suspect as "Lubeman". [3] Petey's identity as Lubeman wouldn't be made apparent until the canonla oil used was found in his office. [4]

Near the conclusion of the Tulsa investigation, Petey was fired from the FBI for his obsessive fascination with heroism and unprofessionalism, being labeled a potential vigilante threat for the Task Force to investigate. [4]
