Dan Dare was a very successful private detective in the 1940s.

Dan Dare roved from city to city in his private plane, typically accompanied by his attractive assistant, Carol Clews, with whose help he solved, disrupted, and/or prevented a long series of crimes. He could afford, on a whim, to donate a $5,000 retainer fee to charity, so business was good. His clients included bankers, movie moguls, broadcast executives, industrialists, millionaires, and government agencies. Typically his cases were concluded with a pre-planned police raid.
