Daniel Dickerson was elected mayor of Gotham City after the city's year as a No Man's Land. He was unpopular and latest in a long line of bad mayors for the beleaguered city.

He was a "deezee,"[1] a Gothamite who abandoned the city when the United States government declared it "No Man's Land," which didn't make him popular among OGs.

Lucius Fox introduced him to Bruce Wayne during the grand reopening of the Gotham Public Library where he was targeted by Whisper A'Daire.[2] He later had lunch with her, unaware of her connection to the League of Assassins.[3]

When new developments were being bombed, he wanted Roberto Alonzo, an OG leader, arrested, but Commissioner Gordon refused to make an arrest until he had evidence.[4] When Alonzo was killed in the next bombing, Dickerson told the press that his "reign of terror" was over; however, Alonzo was posthumously exonerated.[5]

He pushed for the GCPD to use napalm or herbicide to force Poison Ivy out of Robinson Park, regardless of the harm it would do to the children under her care.[6]

Dickerson was supposed to unveil the Crystal Spire as a symbol of Gotham City's rejuvenation; instead, he unveiled a scratching post and a taunting note from Catwoman.[7] Catwoman later learned that Dickerson was being blackmailed by the singer Jamal Meeks, and she stole the photographs of the mayor's wife with Meeks taking drugs. Catwoman uses the photos to make him call off the police.[8] Regardless, a police officer in his pocket attacked Catwoman when he happened to run into her. In retaliation, Catwoman blew up Dickerson's car.[9] She later passed along the photos of Amanda to the Penguin and manipulated the Scarecrow into attacking Dickerson in his office.[10]

Dickerson hired Deathstroke to kill Catwoman,[11] but Dickerson didn't believe he had succeeded and hired Slam Bradley to find her.[12] Dickerson was furious when Bradley resigned, claiming she was dead and there was nothing to find, and sent police officers to beat him up.[13]

He made a celebrity out of Councilman Thomas Hart when he was abducted by the supervillain Nicodemus but survived, and he hosted a dinner in his honor, where he was abducted and Hart was apparently killed. Nicodemus tied him to the front of a subway car loaded with explosives and sent it towards City Hall. When Batman rescued him, Dickerson told him that Hart was Nicodemus, but Batman already knew.[14]

He appointed Michael Akins as the new commissioner after Gordon was shot and retired. While arguing with Commissioner Akins about police overtime, he was shot and killed by a sniper's bullet, with the perpetrator eventually revealed to be the Joker. He was succeeded as mayor by his deputy, David Hull.
