Quote1 Three heroes die and they all show up at the pearly gates. God's there to decide what their eternal fates are going to be – heaven or hell. Our first hero is dressed up like a big owl. And God says, "I gifted you the ability to make fantastic inventions. And what did you do with this amazing talent?" And the Owl Guy says, "I made this really awesome flying ship, and lots of cool outfits and weapons, so that I could bring peace to the city." God asks, "So how many people did you kill?" Owl Guy seems offend. "Zero," he says. "I didn't take a single life." God frowns. "Sorry, Owl Guy. Your heart's in the right place. You're just too soft." And God snaps his fingers. And the hero goes to hell. Quote2

Nite Owl (real name Daniel "Dan" Dreiberg) was an owl-themed vigilante skilled at building machines and gadgets, and a member of the Crimebusters. After a relationship with the Comedienne, he was taken into custody by the F.B.I..

Dan Dreiberg succeeded the original Nite Owl Hollis Mason during the second generation of vigilantes. He joined with other heroes to form the Crimebusters, but the team was forced to disband due to the Keene act which made masked crimefighting illegal.

However, Dan ignored the warning and at one point broke Rorschach out of police custody. Eventually, Dan was captured himself and sent to prison.[1]

Dan's lover Laurie Juspeczyk was given ownership of Dan's pet owl while he was in jail, and his design for his Owlship was co-opted by police departments in the United States, including the Tulsa P.D..

Laurie Juspeczyk, now going by Laurie Blake, agreed to investigate the murder of a cop and the reemergance of the domestic terrorist group the Seventh Kavalry in Tulsa with the promise that, by making Oklahoma's senator Joe Keene, Jr. look good, he would pardon Dan for her in return.
