Dan Garrett was the first Blue Beetle.

Dan Garrett was an archaeologist who discovered a mysterious azure scarab while working on a dig in Egypt. The scarab bequeathed to him fantastic abilities and he assumed the costumed guise of the crime fighter known as the Blue Beetle.[1] Garrett was eventually killed in action and succeeded by Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle.[2]

Powers

Abilities

  • Dan Garrett was created by Charles Nicholas, first appearing in Mystery Men Comics #1. However, the Earth-Four version of Dan Garrett first appeared in Blue Beetle (Volume 3) #1 by Joe Gill and Bill Fraccio.
  • This version of Dan Garrett, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Not to be confused with the Golden Age Blue Beetle published by Fox Features Syndicate and Holyoke Publishing, Dan Garret, who was a police officer and derived his power from Vitamin 2-X.
  • The original Dan Garrett Blue Beetle, as published by Charlton Comics, was considerably more powerful than the modern/New Earth version of Dan Garrett.
  • An unpublished Blue Beetle story named "To Live Again!" was intended to be published by Charlton in the Charlton Bullseye magazine (1981-1982). This story would have connected Daniel Garret (Fox) and Daniel Garret (Earth-Four): they were the same person, revived again and again by some unknown gods, who changed his background every time. The magazine was cancelled before this story could be included. During a brief time AC held the license in 1983, they published the story in Americomics #3. DC acquired the Charlton characters the same year, and ignores AC's publications.
