Quote1 That's just a friend taking back what's rightfully his, Willie. But I hope I did it proud the little time I had it — because I sure was proud to have it. Yep, mighty proud. Quote2
Daniel Young src

Daniel Young was the sheriff of Bailysville, Montana in 1873.

Young was chasing local outlaws "the Jackson Brothers" one day when the spaceship of Green Lantern Corps member Abin Sur screams by overhead. Startled by the sight, Petey Jackson got thrown from his horse, allowing Sheriff Young to apprehend him. While leading Jackson back to the town jail, Young found Abin Sur's downed ship and investigated the strange craft. Injured in an earlier battle, Abin Sur needed time to heal, and deputized Young as his temporary replacement Green Lantern.

Young possessed the ring for only a brief time, long enough to protect local boy Willy Benson from the remaining Jackson Brothers, who intended to swap him for their jailed brother. Upon defeating and capturing the Jacksons, the ring left his finger, presumably returning to the recovered Abin Sur.[1]
