Synopsis for "Chapter Two: Fade to Black"
Alec runs to the injured Adeline and tries to help her, her black blood turning red when it touches his skin. Slade pushes him out of the way and goes to deal with Adeline's wounds. He pulls out the ice spear and tells Alec to get him a cloak from one of the dead men. Alec rips the cloak off one the bodies and hands it to him. The blood on the cloak fades from red to black when Slade takes it. He uses it to stop Adeline's bleeding and asks Alec where they were staying.
Adeline starts awake several hours later at the Wolfhound Inn, her injuries sewn and bandaged. She sees that Slade and Alec are both asleep and tries to quietly wake Alec, but Slade hears her and wakes up too. Slade asks who Alec is and why he can break the spell of the Allwinter, but they quickly start arguing about Slade working for Savage and his life as a mercenary. The shouting wakes Alec up and he reveals they are heading for Gyllenhjem, the capital of the Old Kingdom. Slade says that the lands between them and the old capital are full of dangers, including others Savage will be sending to finish the job. He offers to go with them but Adeline angrily refuses, saying she would never trust him with a child's life after what he did to their sons.
Adeline and Alec ride out into the wilderness, and along the way Alec asks about Slade and Vandal Savage. Adeline tells Alec that Savage wants him because he is going to save the world. After several days of riding they reach Icethorn Vale, a hundred-mile wide dense forest of razor-sharp, frozen bramble-oak. Alec is afraid of the darkness inside but Adeline reassures him the same way she reassured her son when he was scared. As they enter the forest Alec asks what happened to her son, and a woman in a horned helmet waiting for them answers that Slade destroyed his sons like he destroys everything he touches. Adeline realises to her shock that it is Slade's third child, his daughter Rose, who is also working for Savage. Rose tells Adeline that if she hands over Alec she will let Adeline live, but Adeline refuses and says that Rose will taken Alec over her dead body. Rose simply replies "acceptable" and attacks. Although Adeline is a skilled warrior and puts up a good fight, the younger and uninjured Rose eventually overpowers her.
Just as Rose is about to deliver the killing blow, Slade's throwing axe hurtles towards her. She deflects it and turns to face Slade, who has been following Adeline and Alec for days. The two fight, and Slade overpowers Rose with a display of supernatural strength, hitting Rose with a single kick that sends her flying to crash through multiple trees and be impaled on a wall of thorns. Slade goes over to Adeline and holds out his hand to help her up. After a moment's hesitation she takes it, but as soon as she is up, Rose runs up from behind and runs Slade and Adeline through with a branch.
Adeline is killed instantly and Slade is mortally wounded. Rose picks up Adeline's sword to finish Slade off but Alec, horrified at Adeline's death, screams in rage as his power surges. He sends out a blast of magical energy that knocks Rose away and shatters the land, momentarily restoring colour all around him. Slade is only able to say "Impressive, boy", before he passes out and the colour fades again.

Synopsis for "Heir to the Sea, Chapter Two"
Emperor Manta and Atlanna's forces battle on the shore while the Wayne army watch from the walls of Leguin. Waller says they should ride out and destroy the Lemurians while they are distracted, but General Grant orders them to hold unless one of the two sides proves hostile. Orvax uses magic to summon a tsunami, sending it crashing into the Lemurians and the walls of Leguin, destroying the town and scattering all three armies.
Jonathan Kent and Jim Gordon regain consciousness half a mile from the city, surrounded by rubble and water. They find Grant's dead body, but Jonathan reveals that Grant has the ability to return from death and has done so before. He tells Jim to get Grant to safety and guard him until he wakes up, then goes off to search for Martha. He finds her desperately trying to free a baby boy pinned by rubble underwater. Jonathan believes the boy is dead but helps her dig him out. Martha lifts the baby out of the water, and to their amazement, he is unhurt and breathing. Jonathan wonders aloud how this is possible and an injured woman in gold armour carrying a trident stumbles up to them. She says that the boy can breathe both water and air and collapses. Jonathan catches her and she tells him that she made a mistake, and gave Manta the excuse he needed.
