Synopsis for "Chapter Three: Bat Country"
Slade buries Adeline under a cairn in Icethorn Vale and remembers a night twenty-one years ago when he did something terrible and his family were forced to flee their home. He considers abandoning Alec, but decides to honour Adeline's wishes and help the boy reach Skyhjem. They ride in silence for four days, until they start crossing a rope bridge over a chasm and Slade finally asks Alec what he is and why he wants to get to Gyllenhjem. Alec says that when he gets there he will save the world but admits that he doesn't know how. He tells Slade that The Green, the source of his powers, speaks to him in dreams. Slade is angry to learn that they are embarking on such a long and perilous journey because of the voices in Alec's head, but Alec insists his dreams are real, revealing that he knows what happened to Slade's sons and about "Viktor", and that this is his chance to atone.
Furious, Slade gets off the horse and begins to walk off the bridge, saying that he kills for money and doesn't care about the world. Alec replies that's not true when suddenly a man in armour falls out of the sky and crashes through the bridge. Alec falls into the chasm below. Slade is able to grab onto the cliff edge and save himself, but lets go and dives down after Alec. He catches the boy and they fall together.
The armoured man, revealed to be Bruce Wayne, lands at the bottom of the chasm. He picks himself up and is immediately attacked by Slade who assumes he is working for Savage. They fight until Alec, who is unconscious nearby, hears the voice of The Green telling him to wake up. Alec snaps awake, releasing a huge burst of magic that knocks Bruce and Slade away and restores colour to them. They both get up and square off again, but Alec tells them to stop, as The Green has told him who Bruce is and that he doesn't mean them any harm. Slade says he almost killed them but Bruce tells them it was an accident: the curse of the Allwinter makes the sunlight weaker and colder, which is sapping his powers, and he lost the ability to fly in mid-air. Alec says that Bruce can help them and Slade reluctantly agrees. As Slade's horse was killed in the fall, the trio start walking. After they leave, an acorn that was caught in Alec's blast sprouts green shoots, and Slade's horse returns to life.

Synopsis for "Heir to the Sea, Chapter Three"
Jonathan tells the armoured woman, Queen Atlanna, that they need to get her help; but she says that she is already dying. Atlanna tells Jonathan and Martha that the boy is her son by a man from the surface, and that a civil war in Lemuria was sparked by the birth of a half-surface heir. She asks them if they love each other and Martha says without hesitation that they do, the first time either of them had ever said it. Atlanna begs them to take Arthur and protect him until he is ready to take the throne of Lemuria back. She gives them two immeasurably valuable medallions to provide for them and asks them to keep Arthur away from the ocean, to teach him kindness, and to let him be a child rather than a political pawn. With her last breath, Atlanna asks them to tell Arthur about her when the time is right, and to tell him that she loved him more than anything.
Atlanna dies and Martha promises her that Arthur will be loved. Jonathan asks her if she's really considering this, saying that they would be deserting, but Martha replies that so many soldiers will be dead and missing after this day that no-one would question it if they disappeared too. They both decide to leave their life of war for one of love and family and slip away with Arthur. Unbeknownst to them, Amanda Waller is secretly watching them from behind a tree, a look of restrained fury on her face.
Jonathan and Martha get married and settle with Arthur in the town of Gotham, blending in to the population. For years they raise and love Arthur as their son, almost forgetting who he really is. As he grows he seems to be a normal boy, the only strange thing about him is that he insists on bathing in salt water. However one day, as Jonathan and Arthur are buying salt at the market, Arthur breaks away and runs towards a stall of live lobsters, saying he can hear them scream in pain. The fishmonger tries to pull him away, but Arthur easily lifts the grown man over his head and throws him aside. He tells the lobsters to work together to free their claws and they do, attacking the merchant. Arthur grabs two buckets of water and tells the lobsters to get in, which they again do without hesitation. Jonathan gives a stack of gold to the merchant and they leave quickly.
