Darkstars #0 is an issue of the series Darkstars (Volume 1) with a cover date of October, 1994.
Synopsis for "Wayward Son"
John Stewart and other Darkstars accompany the former Darkstar Ferrin COlos to his long-neglected homeworld, Zamba. Upon arrival, Ferrin visits his grandfather, who reprimands Colos for breaking his exile. Ferrin starts narrating his experiences as a Darkstar to his grandfather, hoping to be re-admitted among his family.
Ferrin narrates how the Controllers created the law-enforcement organization called NEMO and, a thousand years later, the subsequent creation of the Darkstars: agents who would expand the organization's reach. The first was Druu, who paved the way for his successors. Ferrin's grandfather criticizes the Controller's decision to use their agents as expendable pawns, but Ferrin reassures him that the Darkstar's duty is protecting lives, not serving the Controllers. Ferrin reminds him of Vardan Radz, the Darkstars who saved Zamba from the Qinoori Raiders and recruited him into the organization. Following Radz's footsteps, Colos protected the people of his sector passionately until he failed to save Jenuwyne from some raiders. Ferrin carried on with his business, but he didn't have the joy and passion from before.
Colos continues to tell about his assignment on Earth and how he started to find purpose again, up until his banishment. With his narration over, Ferrin's grandfather gives his verdict: he'll allow him to stay in Zamba only if he renounces his career as Darkstar, but won't restore his place in his family's house. Without thinking about it for too long, Ferrin rejects the offer and bids farewell to his family again. He reunites with the Darkstars and resumes his exile, ready to confront Jeddigar and reclaim his place as a Darkstar.

Notes
- In October of 1994, all of the existing mainstream DC Comics titles released a special "0" issue to coincide with the Zero Hour crossover event. The purpose of the "0" issue was to reveal a previously unknown aspect of the title character's background. DC Titles under the Vertigo imprint were largely unaffected by Zero Hour and thus, no "0" issue specials were published for them.
