Synopsis for "Escalation of Hostilities"
The Darkstars arrive on Maltus to intervene in the situation of the Triarch, and Green Lantern warns them to step away. The Darkstars ignore his warnings and strike at the goddess Quarra head-on. After a failed attempt which almost cost Carla's life, the Darkstars and Green Lantern decide to join forces.
Meanwhile, Director Jeddigar briefs about the situation on Maltus to the Controllers. The Controllers say that nobody should stop the Triarch from fulfilling their goal, for, as the prophecies predict, it would bring "even greater misfortune, death, and destruction to the cosmos." Jeddigar disagrees with their point of view, but he still bows to their wishes.
Back on Maltus, Vril Dox leads a squad of the L.E.G.I.O.N. following the paths of the Triarch to a mountain. Upon scanning the area, they discover traces of life deep below the surface. They drill through the mountain and they reach an underground lab, where they find Daalon, the slain father of the Triarch, is still alive.
Meanwhile, Green Lantern and the Darkstars confront the Triarch by destroying Quarra's cultivated soil. Suddenly, a squad of Darkstars arrive and tell Colos that their orders are to stop the Green Lantern and not to oppose the Triarch. Colos stands against his fellow Darkstars, trying to defend Green Lantern and make them understand that the Triarch is destroying the planet. But the Darkstars have no choice, for they never question orders. They fight between each other as Hal tries to escape, but the Green Lantern Corps arrive to defend their comrade.
