Professional History
Dave Bautista began his career as a wrestler for WWE, gaining fame from 2002 to 2010 under the ring name "Batista". He slowly transitioned into acting, with one of his first roles being Aldar on an episode of Smallville. He came to prominence as an actor with his performance as Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, a role he reprised in five other films and a television special in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2017 to 2023.
When Gunn came to DC Studios to write and direct The Suicide Squad, he offered Bautista the role of Peacemaker, but he turned it down to star in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, and the role went to fellow former WWE wrestler John Cena. He has gone on to become a relatively high-profile actor, officially retiring from wrestling in 2019, with celebrated performances in Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and Dune: Part Two, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Knock at the Cabin and more.
