Professional History

David Dastmalchian is an American character actor with an impressive resume spanning several iconic movies and TV shows. He made his film debut in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight as the Joker's deranged henchman, Thomas Schiff. Some of his most notable roles include Bob Taylor in Prisoners, Kurt Goreshter in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, Piter de Vries in Dune, and Jack Delroy in Late Night with the Devil.

Beyond The Dark Knight, Dastmalchian has portrayed a variety of characters in both television and film adaptations of DC Comics stories. In live-action, he portrayed cultist Dwight Pollard on Gotham, Abra Kadabra on The Flash, and perhaps his most famous role to date, the Polka Dot Man in The Suicide Squad. In animation, he voiced the Calendar Man in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One and Part Two (along with the Penguin in the latter), Gredon in Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham, and the Flash in Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two.

On top of acting, Dastmalcian is also a comic book writer, having debuted in the industry in 2019 with his comic series Count Crowley for Dark Horse Comics. He has written for the DC Horror imprint, writing for the titles Creature Commandos and DC Horror Presents..., both of which began publication in late 2024.

Trivia

  • Dastmalchian has vitiligo, a skin disorder that causes loss of pigment in circles on his skin, earning him the nickname "Polka Dots" from bullies when he was young. James Gunn was completely unaware of this when he wrote the part of the Polka Dot Man for Dastmalchian in The Suicide Squad.[1]
