David Hyde was a mercenary known as Black Manta and the father of Aquaman.

Black Manta was an enemy of the Aquaman Family for decades, stemming from a grudge between him and the original Aquaman Arthur Curry. This hatred did not abate after his own son became Aquaman. After a fight with Jackson he would leave him and his young sidekick Aqualass bloodied and unconscious.[1]

Hyde eventually joined a new Suicide Squad lead by Peacemaker. Their mission was to travel to Earth 3 and retrieve Amanda Waller. The process which the Squad used to cross into the parallel universe was fatal if they did not go back after a certain period of time. Manta succumbed to the effects long before his teammates and died painfully at Peacekeeper's feet, his helmet filling with his own blood.[2]
