In 2006, DC made a deal with its imprint Vertigo, to trade certain characters who at the time belonged to the respective companies, in order that formerly Vertigo characters could return to the mainstream DC Universe, and formerly mainstream characters could get a more mature treatment under the Vertigo Imprint. In this case, the character Jonah Hex was exchanged for that of Deadman. The resulting Vertigo series starred the character Brandon Cayce, as opposed to the more well-known Boston Brand character.
