Dean Nederlander was the dean of Brentwood Academy and seldom without his trusty dog Cardigan.

History

Nederlander disapproved of student Tim Drake's eccentric and rebellious behavior, unaware that it was to cover up his activities as Robin. Tim went out of his way to befriend Cardigan so the dog's behavior wouldn't create suspicion as he was the only one at Brentwood to recognize Tim both in and out of costume. When Tim had to leave the academy, Nederlander commented that while Tim had been a problem student, he didn't begrudge him for it and, in fact, would miss his spirited attitude.
