Synopsis for "Mistakes"

Superman comes to the aid of Mister Miracle, confronting Kalibak and Mantis. Himon grabs Scott to get him to safety while Superman battles the villains, but they get the better of him.

In the distant past of an unknown planet, which will soon be revealed to be the origin world of the Old Gods, Metron converses with the Source who admits that he is responsible for the deaths of the New Gods. When Metron asks why, the Source states that mistakes have been made.

Orion comes to the aid of Superman confronting Kalibak and Mantis. After a massive explosion unleashed by Orion Superman finds the bodies of Kalibak and Mantis, killed by their souls being rent from their bodies. This causes him to again believe that Orion is the God Killer.

Back on the primordial origin world of the Old Gods, Metron questions the Source, asserting that he is purported to be infallible, but the Source admits the universe is a work in progress. The Source reveals that the deaths of the New Gods are to bring about a new Fifth World to displace the Fourth Worlds of New Gods, just as he had previously displaced the Third World and the Old Gods, because the New Gods of the Fourth World have proven unsatisfactory. The Source reveals that three of the most powerful Old Gods of the Third World attacked the Source and caused it to split into two separate beings. The other being evolved into the Anti-Life Entity. The Source was incapacitated an eon or more. After it recovered, in retribution, the Source destroyed the Old Gods and created the New Gods. However, its diminished stature caused the New Gods to be flawed, leading the New Gods to diverge from the Source's wishes and only able to understand cryptic commands through messages written by a disembodied hand. The Source seeks to reunite with its other part and start anew by destroying the New Gods. To ease the reunion of the two halves of the Source it has commandeered the Infinity Man to assassinate the New Gods and collect their souls inside a second Source Wall within the true Source Wall to house the New God’s souls which he will use as the raw materials for its Fifth World. Metron simply asks if he may witness the end and the Source agrees.

Back on New Genesis, Himon, Superman, Mister Miracle, and Gideon now believe that Orion is the God Killer and search for him, only to find that he is not hiding. Superman confronts Scott, asserting that the Equation is corrupting him, but Scott rebuffs Superman. They go to a barren moon confront Orion. Once there, Scott gives in to the Equation becoming a terrifying creature of Anti-Life.
