Death of the New Gods (Volume 1) with a cover date of April, 2008.
Synopsis for "Sacrifice"
Metron speaks with the Source, who reveals that he needs Scott Free to complete his reunification.
On a barren moon, Mister Miracle, who has become a terrifying creature of Anti-Life, attacks Orion. However, when he uses the Anti-Life Equation to force the truth from Orion, Orion tells him that he is not the God Killer. He instead claims that he has come to this barren moon as a challenge to the God Killer, essentially to bait the killer to come attack him. As Scott knows that he cannot lie while influenced by the Equation, he begs Orion’s forgiveness, as his mental state continues to degrade. Superman leaves with Scott, but they do not return to New Genesis. Instead, they go to a nearby asteroid belt to see if Orion’s plan will work.
Back on New Genesis, Himon mysteriously excuses himself from Gideon on personal business. Gideon is incredulous but allows him to leave, remaining suspicious.
On the barren moon, the God Killer appears and seemingly kills Orion before Superman and Scott can arrive. When they do arrive, they find only Orion’s helmet with the God Killer seemingly gone. Scott cannot sense Orion’s soul, believing it has been destroyed entirely. They go to the Second Source Wall.
Back on New Genesis, Himon witnesses their travel and tells Gideon that this portion of his plan is complete, and he no longer has need of them. He disappears in a blinding flash destroying the remaining New Gods of New Genesis.
At the second Source Wall, Superman and Scott are shocked to see Himon appear. He threatens to reveal the truth they seek but warns that they will not like it.
