Synopsis for "Blowback"

Slade Wilson recalls having trained two young men alongside Christoph, years ago. One was his son, Grant, and the other was Alex, who demanded to be called Peabody. Grant's aptitude for the art of killing was obvious, but his father held high standards which often left him feeling inadequate. Alex on the other hand was not nearly as good as Grant was with a gun, but with simple electronics, he was a wiz. Eventually, Slade awarded Grant his own helmet, promising to start field training soon. Grant failed to understand the necessity of the helmet, but Christoph explained that sometimes it pays to be the message rather than just simply sending one.

Now, Slade is forced to cremate Christoph, who was murdered with a knife that was found alongside Grant's mask in a briefcase; a message for Slade. He knows that someone is trying to break him; trying to remove the important people from his life in order to make him feel isolated.

Returning to his safe house, Slade pours himself a drink and takes an ice-bath. He is interrupted by Peabody, who suggests that the assassin's work is beginning to catch up with his body. Moving onto the subject of business, Slade comments that it is surprising that the killer managed to find Christoph at all. He and Peabody assume that there must have been some kind of tracking device in the knife that was used to kill their associate. Peabody is skeptical, because his scan turned nothing up, but Slade smashes the handle against the table and a tracking device falls out.

After another scan, Peabody determines that he missed the device initially because it sends burst transmissions only every six hours, and lies dormant in between. He manages to track the signal to a local address, and Deathstroke prepares to search out his son.

Following the tracer, he tracks the signal to a motel room with a laptop in it. However, nothing else is there, and Deathstroke realizes that it was left as bait. Moments later, he is attacked by yet another man in the Legacy costume. This version seems to have a number of super-human abilities including flight and super-strength. Legacy disappears for a moment, but returns carrying a Russian submarine. He throws the massive machine at Deathstroke, and assumes that the assassin has been killed by the impact.

With Deathstroke trapped and apparently injured by the blast, Peabody desperately tries to contact him on his comm-link.
