Mentalla was a young heroine who infiltrated the Fatal Five.

Delya Castil was born on the moon Titan in the orbit of Saturn and was trained in the use of her abilities. When she went as far as she could on Titan she applied to join the Legion but was rejected in favor of Tellus.

Delya later joined the Legion Academy. But quickly got bored with the Academy and decided to use Bouncing Boy's example and tackle a villain on her own by joining the new Fatal Five but she soon got in over her head.

Even though the Emerald Empress did not suspect her, she did keep a close eye on her and when Mentalla turned on the Fatal Five she killed her immediately. Mentalla's last act did allow the Legion to defeat the Fatal Five and she died a hero.

Powers

  • Telepathy: Mentalla can read peoples' minds in detail, either by consciously willing it or by mentally picking up their stray thoughts. Via her telepathy, she can also send messages into the minds of others, sounding like her own voice inside their heads, or place knowledge of certain things into people's minds. Using a combination of these methods, she can interpret unknown alien languages. She has demonstrated the following specialized uses:[citation needed]
    • Telepathic Defense: She can manifest her telepathy in a number of defensive ways.
      • Telepathic Cloak: She can mask her presence and the use of her abilities from being detected by other psions and psychic entities. She can extend these defenses to others around her as well. Cloaking via telepathy is not perfect, and powerful psis may notice and "see" through this ability.
      • Psionic Shield: Ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of herself and of others minds.
    • Telepathic Illusions: She can create realistic telepathic illusions and cause people to experience events which are not actually occurring.
      • Telepathic Camouflage: She can alter the apparent physical appearance of herself and other people by altering the perceptions of those around her. This can go so far as to make other people believe that the camouflaged people are not there, i.e. invisible.
    • Telepathic Manipulation: She can manipulate other people's minds easily, achieving a variety of effects.
      • Mind Control: She can control the thoughts and actions of others.
      • Mental Paralysis: She can induce temporary mental or physical paralysis
      • Mental Amnesia: She can erase any awareness of particular memories or cause total amnesia.
      • Mental Sedating: Can telepathically "sedate" her victims so that, if already rendered unconscious, they remain so for as long as he continues to "sedate" them.
    • Psionic Blast: She can project psionic force bolts, which have no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind, causing pain or unconsciousness, potentially even turning someone brain-dead.
    • Mental Detection: She can sense the presence of another superhuman within a small but as yet undefined radius of herself by perceiving the distinctive mental radiations emitted by such a being.

Abilities

Skilled at using her mental abilities but had no person combat experience

Weaknesses

She could not control those with strong wills and thus often relied on surprise.
