Rise of the Batmen is a seven-part Detective Comics story-line written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Eddy Barrows, featuring Batman putting together his own team to face off against Colony.

Synopsis

Azrael is attacked by a mysterious assailant, only to be saved by Batman. During the rescue, Batman uncovers a sophisticated drone surveilling Gotham’s vigilantes, hinting at a looming threat. Realizing the danger is too great for any one hero to face alone, Batman approaches Batwoman with a proposition: to train Gotham's heroes as a cohesive team capable of countering the impending danger.

Batwoman takes charge of the new team, pushing them through rigorous training to prepare them for the challenges ahead. However, her leadership is tested when she confronts her father, Colonel Jacob Kane. Meanwhile, Batman is ambushed by the Colony’s soldiers, revealing the sophistication and scale of the threat.

As Batwoman grapples with doubts about her leadership, the team learns the full extent of the Colony’s plans. Led by Colonel Kane, the organization intends to launch an invasion to enforce their brand of justice. Kane attempts to recruit Batwoman, emphasizing their shared goals, but she refuses to abandon her values. This decision sparks a battle between the Colony and Batman’s team, testing their resolve and unity.

Captured and imprisoned in the Colony’s base, Batman confronts Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong, a prodigy who has been reverse-engineering Bat-Tech for the Colony. Ulysses reveals their plan to create an army of soldiers trained like Batman and armed with his technology to eliminate perceived threats. Horrified by their lethal methods, Batman vows to stop them. With Batwoman and her team launching a daring rescue mission, Batman escapes amidst the chaos.

The team intensifies their efforts, launching an assault on the Colony’s stronghold. Colonel Kane once again tries to persuade Batwoman to join him, believing his mission is necessary to protect Gotham. She firmly rejects him, standing by Batman and her team. Meanwhile, Red Robin uncovers the Colony’s plan to use drones to target individuals across Gotham, posing an imminent threat to innocent lives.

As the drones prepare to strike, Tim Drake (Red Robin) devises a desperate plan to redirect the fleet toward himself, sacrificing his safety to save the city. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne confronts Kate Kane, questioning her loyalty and her father’s role in the crisis. Despite the emotional tension, the team works together to stop the drones.

In the final moments, Colonel Kane learns of Tim’s self-sacrificial decision as Batwoman confronts him about the cost of his actions. As the battle reaches its climax, a mysterious figure intervenes and removes Tim from the battlefield. The team is left devastated, unsure of Tim’s fate but resolute in their determination to continue the fight for Gotham’s future.
