Detective Comics #580 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1987.

Synopsis for "Double Image"

Certain night, a man awakes on a derelict building to find the left side of his face absolutely scarred. Upon closer inspection of the place, the man realizes that he's got all the items and costume of the criminal called Two-Face and this realization makes him come to the conclusion that he is Two-Face.

Like this, a new wave of crimes by "Two-Face" start around Gotham City, right after his escape from Arkham Asylum. During one of their routine patrols, Batman and Robin come across the criminal, but they fail to capture him. Moments later, the heroes meet with Commissioner Gordon at the GCPD Headquarters, where they try to deduce Two-Face's next hit. Batman and Robin come to the right conclusion that the criminal will strike in a mirror factory and they confront Two-Face and his gang at the place, but once again, Two-Face manages to escape. During the fight, Batman realizes that Two-Face is not Harvey Dent and he deduces that it is the former actor, Paul Sloan, who shared a similar tragic past with that of Harvey Dent.

Upon calling Gordon and after a visit to Sloan's house, Batman confirms that the man has gone missing and is most likely acting as Two-Face. Also knowing that Harvey Dent is still on the loose after his escape from Arkham, Batman deduces that he must be behind the Sloane crimes. With this information, Batman lays a trap for Two-Face/Sloan with help from Commissioner Gordon.

The next night, a train carrying two dollar bills arrives to Gotham and as expected, Sloan makes an appearance to stop the train. The Gotham City Police Department is ready to ambush the criminal, but Sloan is better equipped than them and defeats them using special guns. At that moment, Batman and Robin intervene, but the appearance of the real Two-Face leaves them baffled.

Harvey explains that he disfigured Sloan's face with help from the Crime Doctor in order to use Sloan as a decoy while he was free to commit other crimes. While everyone is distracted, Sloan uses a tranquilizer gun and shoots at Batman, Robin and Harvey, leaving them unconscious. Afterwards, Sloan's gang takes the three of them and place them inside a freezing wagon, before also placing a bomb inside and leave them to die.
