Synopsis for "The Suit of Sorrows"
Batman receives the Suit of Sorrows as a gift from Talia al Ghul, who recounts a legend that it will grant strength and speed to whoever wears it, as long as they are pure at heart. Batman becomes concerned, however, when he nearly kills Gotham Jack while wearing it and begins researching the suit's origins with help from Robin.
Their research takes Batman to the French Alps, where Brother Fabian of the Order of St. Dumas tells him the suit belonged to a splinter group called the Order of the Pure. Batman travels to a chapel that supposedly belongs to the Order of the Pure, but it is a trap and he is caught in an avalanche. Brother Fabian has doubts, and other members of the Order try to kill him. Batman saves him in time and demands to know the truth about the suit.
In the Batcave, Batman considers melting down the suit. He tells Robin how Geoffrey de Cantonna massacred a Moorish army because he lost control while wearing the suit, and to protect his reputation, the Order spread the story that the Moors had committed the massacre.
Gotham Jack is spotted again, and Batman goes to fight him in the Suit of Sorrows. He successfully holds himself back and captures him without killing him. He decides that destroying the suit would show a lack of faith in himself and instead puts it on display in the Cave.
