Do you ever feel like... like the more good you do or try to do for people out there, for strangers, the more the ones close to you, the ones you love, get hurt? I don't mean in general. I mean here. In Gotham. I'm not talking about the people. I'm talking about the bricks. The stone. The damn bedrock. There are times I feel a dark heart down there, Dick. A dark, malformed heart. Beating and beating.
Detective Comics #880 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 2011.
Synopsis for "My Dark Architect"
Commissioner Gordon calls his ex-wife Barbara Eileen and tells her he alerted hotel security to the Joker's escape, but she should stay in her hotel room until he arrives. She hears a knock at the door and assumes it's hotel security, but screams. Gordon runs up the hotel stairs and finds Barbara Eileen Jokerized. She is brought to the Wayne Enterprises lab for treatment.
Batman investigates the Joker's escape from Arkham Asylum with Harvey Bullock. The Joker used the same Joker Venom in his escape as he used on Barbara Eileen, and not only is it one of his oldest formula, it would have had to have been smuggled to him in his food. Batman follows the Joker's trail through the sewers and finds him in the crypt of a church. The Joker denies attacking Barbara Eileen, and Batman realizes who the true culprit must have been. Barbara Eileen wakes up and tells Gordon it was “him.” Oracle sees her brother in the security footage as James Jr. attacks her from behind.
