Devilance the Pursuer was once one of the most respected minions of Darkseid, Lord of Apokolips as the hunter who captured and brought back his prey to his master for many years.

Devilance the Pursuer was tapped to track and destroy Darkseid's hated rivals, the Forever People. When he found them on an island in the Pacific Ocean, the Forever People switched places with the Infinity Man. Devilance and the Infinity Man then engaged in a terrible battle that destroyed the small island that they were fighting on. Both of them appeared atomized and were presumed dead, although later the Infinity Man returned to assist the Forever People again. Devilance himself, however, was not seen for years.

Devilance then became substantially larger than he was in the past and was on a remote alien planet where Starfire, Adam Strange, and Animal Man were stranded. He captured Starfire. Adam Strange and Animal Man started searching for Starfire. They fell victim to his trap and were also captured by him.

Devilance seemed to believe that the trio saw something that only the gods (such as himself) were meant to. Thus, being "the God of the Pursuit", Devilance took it upon himself to catch them. However, with a little teamwork and timing, the trio burned Devilance's face and escaped his clutches. They also stole his Energy Lance in hopes of using it as a power source for their space cruiser. Devilance was bound by the very vines that had once held his captives. Starfire stated during her escape that the whole planet they were on seemed to be a trap set by Devilance himself.

He finally caught up with their space cruiser, only to be eviscerated and decapitated by Lobo.

Powers

Abilities

  • Hunting
  • Tracking
  • Genius Level Intellect: Despite being known as a natural tracker and hunter, Devilance has a remarkable intellect, being able to build complex machines and different types of weaponry. On the New Gods' refuge planet, he built a terraforming machine that not only modified its ecosystem but also transformed it into a giant deathtrap filled with nerve-poison fruits, hydraulic killer flowers, etc. [1]. He did the same thing on the planet where Starfire, Adam Strange, and Animal Man took refuge during 52. [2]. He has also built an anti-teleportation quantum shield in n-space to prevent teleporters and Boom Tubes from entering the Citadel.
