Doc Willard was a genius physician who once succeeded in transplanting the brain of mobster George "Boss" Dyke after his execution in the gas chamber to the body of a gorilla.[1]

Doc Willard resurfaced many years later when George Dyke's brain went through a freakish transformation caused by aliens, and ended up switching the brains of Batman and the alien monster that Dyke had become[2]

Shortly after, he allied himself with General Lazlo of Tybern.[3]

Willard kept George Dyke's brain until it was stolen and expanded by Sinestro. His experiences left him unbalanced and he ended up in Arkham Asylum. [4]

Abilities

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • While Batman #75, which published Doc Willard's first appearance, is nearly always considered to be part of the Earth-Two continuity period, that specific story is referenced much later in 1978's World's Finest #251 and following issues up to 1979's World's Finest #254, making Doc Willard an Earth-One character. Most indexers consider that story an early occurrence of Earth-One continuity, even though the other stories in the same issue and those immediately following are considered part of Earth-Two continuity.
