Doctor Fate (Volume 2) #2 is an issue of the series Doctor Fate (Volume 2) with a cover date of December, 1988.
Synopsis for "The Night of Brahma, Part One: Sunset"
After enduring centuries of existence, Andrew Bennett seeks eternal peace and goes to the Temple of the Ineffable Tao to meet with Shoju; an ancient vampire master who can grant Bennett his deathwish.
Elsewhere, Nabu trains Eric and Linda Strauss to improve their performance as Doctor Fate, when they are suddenly interrupted by Jack Small; a meek lawyer who is there after Linda's request. She'd like some financial advice from him, but Eric and Nabu distrust his intentions. After a brief introduction to Petey, Jack is heavily questioned by Eric and Nabu. At that moment, the Lords of Order manifest in the Strauss' apartment and they tell them to stop their efforts to fight Chaos as Doctor Fate, as all they are achieving is delaying the inevitable victory of Chaos and subsequent reborn of Order. Eric, Linda and Nabu refuse to follow such command and the Lords of Order come up with a new strategy. They will choose a champion to fight Doctor Fate and if their champion wins, Fate would cease to fight Chaos. Eric, Linda and Nabu agree and the Lords of Order choose Jack Small as their champion.
Meanwhile, Andrew Bennett and the rest of the Tao vampires welcome death willingly as they all face the light of the sun at dawn and they start burning until there's nothing but ashes and they all disappear.
Moments later, the Lords of Order transport Doctor Fate and Nabu to a desert in New Mexico, where they will confront their Champion, who descends from the heavens riding a white horse. Fate and Nabu realize that the Lords' champion is Jack Small and they refuse to fight. They tell the Lords that even if they were to lose that match, they would continue to fight Chaos until the end of time. Defeated, the Lords of Order transport everyone back to the Strauss' apartment, but they forget to change Jack back and he remains transformed as their white horse champion.
When the sun disappears and night takes over, the ashes of Andrew Bennett gather together once more and he returns to existence, even though the rest of the vampires are truly gone. Bennett's desperation and agony increases, as he sees no way out of his torment. It is then that the Lords of Order show up and offer Bennett to grant him his heart's desire.
