Synopsis for "Black is [theoretically] Black"
Dusty debriefs Veronica Cale on what happened with Amanda Beckett on Buena Suerte while the Chief informs the Doom Patrol about the sentient black hole. The Chief tells the Doom Patrol that they will rendezvous with Dr. Wade Ackerman in Brandenburg, Germany. Father Davis talks to Bumblebee about her failed marriage with Vox before watching the team head to Germany. Meanwhile, Karl Strauss, the project director of the Vulcan Super Collider, asks Dr. Ackerman why he contacted the Chief on Oolong Island rather than Dr. Cale. Ackerman explains that Cale's options are limited while the Chief's Doom Patrol are specialists for these kind of situations. Suddenly, both Ackerman and Strauss' face begin to swirl into a black hole. The sentient singularity has started to take possession of the project's team.
The Doom Patrol arrives in Germany where they are greeted by band of policemen who have been converted by the singularity. The policemen open fire on the Doom Patrol and the team reacts by using their powers to disarm the singularity's forces. After defeating the police force, the singularity speaks through Ackerman who states it curiosity about the Doom Patrol's conception. Ackerman/ singularity shows the Doom Patrol the Vulcan Super Collider which is a high energy particle accelerator that collides protons which may prove the existence of life among the stars. The singularity explains that he shares similarities to a black hole like the pull of gravity. Negative Man reaffirmed that characteristic when he tried to inhabit one of the possessed policemen.
The singularity proclaims itself as the first scientist in existence because when its sentience begat cognizance, it started to become curious and it would categorize environments, lifeforms, celestial events, cosmic anomalies, etc. The singularity believes if there is something worth knowing then it is compelled to know it. The singularity finds Earth to be massively overpopulated and diversified while our biology is extraordinarily mutable. It considers humanity's perception of itself as a species limited by their perception of individuality. As far as the singularity can tell, humanity extrapolates from these perceptions. Therefore, the singularity has decided a cross section of specimens will be required in order to reach a conclusion. The singularity expresses how easy it would be if humanity was a hive mind but the species will need a massive dilation or in other words, a culling.

- DC Comics Solicitation states It's a black hole, but it's not a black hole. If you're a Doom Patrol fan, that made perfect sense. And even if not, then you're in for one hell of a ride as the Doom Patrol face off against the most annoying alien this side of G'nort. Who's G'nort? What, do we have to spoon-feed this stuff to you? Oh, and we send the Metal Men into space. Just because.
