Doomsday is an experimental creature, designed as a living weapon of mass-destruction by a Kryptonian scientist, and Superman's greatest enemy.
.
History
Doomsday was created to serve as a world-killing weapon by a mad Kryptonian scientist, being repeatedly slaughtered after being abandoned to survive on his own. Each time he was resurrected, Doomsday became more powerful. This eventually allowed him to kill his creator and escape Krypton. The beast carved a path of slaughter on many worlds, before coming to Earth, where he was confronted by the hero Superman. The two fought viciously and ended up killing each other, but Doomsday had the power to be resurrected. He was killed many times after that and sought to kill the revived Superman again.[1]
As the most powerful wave of Infinite Crisis struck, realities were torn asunder and cast adrift into the Bleed. This resulted in Gotham City of Earth-19 and Gotham of Earth-0, which were adrift in the Bleed, to be merged together. After the heroes destroyed the Coast City base of their mysterious enemy who was threatening the multiverse, Doomsday decided to join them for unknown reasons. Superman theorized it may have been due to need for self-preservation, as the effects of the Bleed had weakened the monster too.[1]
